On 12 August 2026, shortly before 8:30 pm, the beach fell silent. Thousands of people in cardboard glasses watched a low Sun being eaten by a black disc. Then the light flipped: for roughly a minute and a half we could take off our filters and look at the eclipse with the naked eye . Above the horizon hung a black circle rimmed with fire. Honestly? It looked like a flying saucer. An insane experience. The 12 August 2026 eclipse in short: a total solar eclipse visible from Greenland, Iceland and northern Spain — the first totality over mainland Spain since 1905. In Spain it happened in the early evening, with the Sun low in the west and totality lasting about 1 to 1 min 45 s depending on location. Before the eclipse: a beach turned observatory By late afternoon the beach looked like a silent festival: families with umbrellas, curious onlookers and serious enthusiasts with tripods, long lenses and solar filters. A friend had set up facing west, where the Sun would sink towards the mountains. Just after 8:25 pm the light was still golden and ordinary — hard to believe that five minutes later we would be plunged into an artificial dusk.
